How to Have Fun and Stay Cool When It’s Super Hot Outside

Summer is here, and that means it’s time to enjoy the sun and have some fun. But sometimes, the sun can be too hot and make you feel sick or tired. Here are some tips on how to stay safe and cool when it’s super hot outside.

Drink lots of water

Water is your best friend when it’s hot. It helps your body stay cool and hydrated. You should drink water before, during and after you play outside. You can also drink other fluids like juice, milk or sports drinks, but avoid soda, coffee or alcohol. They can make you lose more water and feel worse.

Wear the right clothes

You don’t want to wear heavy or dark clothes when it’s hot. They can make you feel hotter and sweat more. Instead, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothes that let your skin breathe. You can also wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun’s rays.

Find some shade

Sometimes, the sun can be too bright and hot for your eyes and skin. That’s why you should find some shade when you play outside. You can sit under a tree, an umbrella or a tent. You can also go inside a building or a car with air conditioning. But don’t stay in a parked car without air conditioning for too long. It can get very hot and dangerous.

Avoid the hottest time of the day

The sun is usually the hottest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. That’s when you should avoid being outside for too long. You can play outside in the morning or evening when it’s cooler. You can also check the weather forecast to see how hot it will be and plan your activities accordingly.

Know the signs of heat illness

Sometimes, even if you follow these tips, you might still feel sick from the heat. You might have a heat illness, which is when your body gets too hot and can’t cool down. Some signs of heat illness are:

  • Feeling dizzy, faint or confused
  • Having a headache, nausea or vomiting
  • Having a fast heartbeat or breathing
  • Having muscle cramps or weakness
  • Having red, hot or dry skin
  • Having a high temperature

If you have any of these signs, you should stop what you’re doing and get help right away. You should move to a cool place, drink water and rest. You can also put cold water or ice on your skin to cool down. If you don’t feel better soon, you should call 911 or go to the hospital.

Have fun and stay cool

Summer is a great time to have fun with your friends and family. But you should also take care of yourself and stay cool when it’s super hot outside. By following these tips, you can enjoy the sun and have a safe and happy summer.
